Premium Open Water Course - Sydney - Alexandria

Diving since 1969

More time in the water.
More dives. More attention on you.

The Premium Open Water Course is a 4.5-day scuba diving certification course in Sydney with two pool sessions, six ocean dives and a maximum of four divers per instructor.

4.5Days
6Ocean dives
2Pool sessions
4Max group size

Close to 60 years of teaching people to dive has taught us one thing above all else: every diver arrives at the water from a different starting point. So we listened — to our customers, and to the instructors who work with them every day — and we built a second option.

The Premium Open Water Course earns the same internationally recognised certification as our standard Open Water course, over a longer 4.5 days. That extra time goes straight back into the water: an additional pool training session to get comfortable with the skills, and two extra ocean dives to put them to use.

What’s different

  • 4.5 days — a more relaxed pace from start to finish
  • An additional pool training session — more time to settle into the gear and the skills before you head offshore
  • Six ocean dives instead of four — two extra dives to build real confidence in the water
  • A maximum of four divers — your instructor has the time to work at your pace, not the clock’s

Who it’s for

You don’t need a reason to want more diving. This course is a good fit if:

  • You’d like extra time to build confidence before your first ocean dive
  • The ocean environment is new to you, or it’s been a long time between swims
  • You’d simply rather not rush — a longer course means more of the trip is spent diving
  • You believe, as we do, that more training and more dives make a better diver

Our standard Open Water Course has certified tens of thousands of divers and remains an excellent, efficient path to certification. The Premium course isn’t a different standard — it’s a different pace, for divers who want more water time and a little more room to breathe.

The Premium Guarantee

If you haven’t achieved your Open Water Diver certification by the end of the 4.5 days, we’ll invite you back for further training at no cost to you.

Short on time?

Not everyone has 4.5 days free — and you don’t need them. Our standard Open Water Course certifies you to the same international standard in a shorter format, and runs every week.

Common questions

How is the Premium course different from the standard Open Water course?

The Premium course runs over 4.5 days, includes six ocean dives instead of four, adds an extra pool training session, and caps the group at four divers per instructor. The certification you earn is identical.

Do I need any diving experience?

None at all. You need to be able to snorkel 300 metres or swim 200 metres, and float or tread water for 10 minutes. A dive medical may be required depending on your health questionnaire.

Where does the training happen?

Pool training is at Victoria Park Pool near Broadway shopping centre. Ocean dives are at Sydney sites including Camp Cove, Gordons Bay, Malabar, Bare Island and Shelly Beach — chosen on the day for the best conditions.

What certification do I finish with?

Open Water Diver — an internationally recognised certification that lets you dive anywhere in the world with a buddy.

Less pressure. Better diving.

Four and a half days from first briefing to certification. Day one is an evening session only, so you keep the full day free.

  • Day 1 Orientation 6:30pm – 9:30pm

Meet your instructor and the rest of your group, review your online theory, and get sized up for gear.

  • Day 2 Pool session and your first ocean dive 7:45am – 4:00pm

Skills in the pool in the morning, then straight into the ocean while it’s all fresh.

  • Day 3 Two ocean dives 9:00am – 3:00pm

A full day in the water, building on day two.

  • Day 4 Second pool session and one ocean dive 7:45am – 4:00pm

The extra pool session is what sets this course apart — time to refine the skills you’ve already used in the ocean.

  • Day 5 Final two ocean dives 9:00am – 3:00pm

Dives five and six, and you finish as a certified Open Water Diver.

Pool training is held at Victoria Park Pool, near Broadway shopping centre.

Ocean dives take place at Sydney sites including Camp Cove, Gordons Bay, Malabar, Bare Island and Shelly Beach. We choose the site on the day, based on where the diving will be best.

Requirements

No diving experience needed. You do need to be comfortable in the water, and that comes down to two things.

Snorkel 300m, or swim 200m

No time limit and any stroke you like — this is about comfort in the water, not speed.

Float for 10 minutes

Tread water or float on your back. Whichever is easier for you.

You’ll also complete a short health questionnaire before the course. If anything on it needs a doctor’s sign-off, we’ll let you know in plenty of time — a dive medical is only required in some cases.
